A note about Dimensional WeightÂ
The air freight industry uses a standard calculation to determine the dimensional (or volumetric) weight of an item. For instance a pound of feathers takes up more space in the aircraft than a pound of lead. After calculating the dimensional weight and comparing that to the actual weight, the higher of the two values is used as the weight for billing purposes.
